Meetings

NORVA meetings are held at the clubhouse on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00p.m.

Directions

From I-495 in Virginia, take the Braddock Road West exit, 54A. Drive West on Braddock road until you reach Ox Road (VA-123), which is just past George Mason University. Turn left on Ox Road. Look for Henderson Road (VA-643) just past Burke Lake park. Turn right on Henderson road. Travel a couple of miles until you see a sign for Fountainhead Park at Hampton Road. Turn left on Hampton Road. Follow Hampton Road south for a mile or two until you see another sign that marks the entrance for Fountainhead Park. Turn right into the park. The range parking lot entrance is about 200 yards from the entrance and on your left.

NORVA's Affiliations and Membership Requirements

At this point NORVA is affiliated with VBA, and with the VFAA/NFAA. As you all are aware, we have been requiring membership in the VBA in order to become a member of NORVA.

Well we are considering changing this requirement to being a member of either the VBA or the VFAA/NFAA. We are interested in opinions on this topic and invite all members you would like to share these opinions to come to the meetings, so that as these changes unfold you can be sure to give your input.

A Note to Members

When entering and exiting the NORVA parking lot make sure you close and lock the gate behind you. There has been a problem with non-club members parking on the lot so they can go into the park and if they are there when you go to leave then they would be stuck without the combination. In one instance someone actually rammed the gate to get out.

Also, always set the lock to a different position than the combination when leaving the hasp open, this will prevent someone from finding out the combination.

Work Details

The archery ranges need upkeep on a regular basis. For large scale projects we have organized work details. But there are plenty of things that need taken care of that an individual can do.

Anyone interested in helping out on one of these work details or volunteer their time can contact;
Jim Herin 703-490-3293, or Victor Barnett 703-361-4609.

Members who have worked 10 or more hours and recorded their time in the 10-Hour Logbook, your dues for next year will only be $50.00 rather then the normal $100.00.

Upcoming Work Detail Dates:

  • Currently the ranges are in pretty good shape. I think there is some pruning that could be done now that the leaves are on the trees. and just general clean up around the range. I expect that there will be at least one major work detail in the month of June, so stay posted.

  • Check here on the website for updates and if you have any questions call me:
    Victor Barnett 703-361-4609

  • Feel free to take initiative to do things on you own. Just make sure you record your time in the "10-Hour" book.

If you are planning to do something at the range, current known tasks that need to be done are:

  1. General clean up around the ranges to keep it tidy looking.
  2. Replace deteriorated sheathing and "freshen-up" the outhouse
  3. Break up and disperse any old excelsior bales laying around the range.
  4. Prune any branches that are interfering with shooting lanes.
  5. Paint markers on field range.
  6. Clean up down wood on Field range target #24.

Let me know if you take care of any of these items.
Thanks
